John Knecht is an American writer and director whose work includes award-winning television commercials, music videos, episodic online comedy sketches and short films.  Throughout his adventurous career as an agency creative, he’s worked in America and Europe at agencies including Goodby Silverstein & Partners San Francisco and 180 Amsterdam, and he’s had the privilege of freelancing writing and/or directing for 72andSunny, 180LA, KesselsKramer,  BBH, Mistress, BBDO, Goodness Mfg., JWT, Saatchi & Saatchi, Euro RSCG, DDB, Good Corps, Publicis, Razorfish and, phew. His work has been awarded at Cannes, The One Show, Art Director's Club, D&AD, London International, AICP, The Effies and other strange sounding accolades his parents may never fully understand.

He co-directed FunnyOrDie’s first ever internet movie, The Don Dolmes Story, an 18 minute short film starring Seth Morris, Ballers’ Rob Corddry, The Big Short’s Adam McKay, The League’s Jason Mantzoukas and Paul Scheer, and 24’s Mary Lynn Rajskub. Its audience has come from near and far with more than 9 million viewers and counting.

He’s currently co-Executive Creative Director at McCann Seattle and continues to work on a photo-journalist book about touring bands (see above), with stories and photographs from bands like The Walkmen, Beach House, Girl Talk, Broken Social Scene, Ben Kweller and Camper Van Bethoven, to name a few. Will it become an iPad book? A documentary film? A neverending story of all things music? Yes and yes and yes.

John currently lives in Seattle with his wife Kate and their sons Rollie and Leo.
